Wouldn't it be useful to be able to remember a new number instantly and perhaps write it down later? You can tell the person, "You can tell me your number, I'll remember it". They might think you have a super memory but it's actually a very simple process.
Here's How It Works
First, assign letters to each number from 0 to 9. The letters for each number have similar sounds so they are pretty easy to remember.- 0 - s, z
- 1 - t,d
- 2 - n
- 3 - m
- 4 - r
- 5 - l
- 6 - sh, soft 'g' as in gentle, j, ch
- 7 - k, hard 'g' as in get, hard 'c', qu
- 8 - f, v
- 9 - p, b
Vowels along with w, h, and y are not assigned a number but rather will fill in the words used to remember numbers. You can also use some memory aids to recall which letters go with each number:
- 1. - think of 't' as a one with a cross; associate 'd' with 't'
- 2. - 'n' has two downstrokes
- 3. - 'm' has three downstrokes
- 4. - with 'r', think 'fouR'
- 5. - think of the Roman numeral for 50 - 'L'
- 6. - think of 'shix' to recall two of the sounds
- 7. - two sevens back-to-back resemble a 'k'
- 8. - think of 8 as resembling a cursive 'f'
- 9. - a 'b' is a 9 upside down; 'p' is 9 reversed
- 0. - think 'zzzero' and think of 's' as well
Looks Complicated!
It does looks a bit complicated at first but it becomes very simple and almost second nature.
Let's take an example of a number.
1) 345-6789
The letters would be m-r-l-sh/(soft)g-k/(hard)g-f/v-p/b Use m-r-l-sh-k-v-p and thinks of 'Muriel Shock VP'. Imaagine Joe Biden being shocked by Muriel and the number is memorized.
2) Or try 555-1234, a common Hollywood phone number That would be L-L-L-t/d-n-m-r. Think 'Lola late no more'. It doesn't matter if the phrase is a bit ridiculous because it will be easy to remember.
3) Let's take any randon seven numbers. 957-8401 = use b-l-k-f-r-s-t.. That spells 'black forest'. So, imagine a cake!
Remember to practice, practice, practice. Look at a list of your friends' phone numbers and practice making phrases for each. Before long, it will be second nature and recalling numbers will be a breeze. It will impress your friends and colleagues and give your brain another great exercise to maximize its power!
This memory aid can be used for all sorts of numbers, such as social insurance numbers, pass codes, PIN numbers and much more. It's easy to forget one number out of seven but you won't forget a phrase.
